Quest AV model MD12 Media Distribution Amplifier |
|
|
| The MD12 is a 2U rack-mount
audio distribution amplifier designed to distribute a professional quality mono audio
signal to the Media, eliminating the unsightly tangle of Mic's, cables, cassette recorders
and DAT's, etc. The Input Panel has a high impedance, balanced line level input with male and female XLR's, screwdriver accessible gain adjustment (±20dB), l.e.d. level meter and ground lift switch. On the Output Panel there are the twelve balanced XLR outputs, level and ground lift switches and a second l.e.d. level meter. All outputs are electrically isolated from each other and each has it's own line / mic. level switch (0dB/-40dB) plus a ground lift switch. |
Six of the outputs have a 6.35mm
stereo jack socket and the other six have a Cinch / Phono socket in parallel with their
associated XLR for maximum versatility. The input signal for the MD12 may originate from any equipment capable of outputting an audio signal between -16 and +24dBu. An audio mixer is ideal, but virtually any line level audio source should be capable of driving the MD12. The MD12's output circuitry has been designed to feed modern solid-state equipment with high impedance line level inputs or low impedance microphone inputs on portable recorders, sound mixers, etc. can also be connected. |
The outputs can be used in any
combination of balanced, unbalanced, grounded, ungrounded, line level and microphone
level. The settings and connections of any output will not affect any of the others.
'Ground loops' that may occur can quickly and safely be dealt with by the ground
lift switches to be found at each output and the input. There is sufficient internal gain and attenuation to allow level shifting. The l.e.d. meters read the line output level, so input levels from +24dBu down to -16dBu may be adjusted for +4dBu line level output. The rack mounting ears can be removed or reversed and the mains connector can be on the input (default) or output panel. |
